Gallus Whisky
Uber simplicity makes a powerful statement for Barossa Distillers.
With a brief to create a disruptive and distinctive brand that would become the definitive whisky of Barossa Valley, inspired by Speyside flavors and tradition, we were tasked to create a design that looked premium, confident, bold and beautiful, to elicit a sense of intrigue and delight in the consumer. It also needed to be contemporary and minimalist in feel, and push boundaries in order to command presence and standout.
We wanted to communicate the client’s love and inspiration of Glasgow in the brand, and so named the whisky “Gallus”, colloquial for “bold, daring, cheeky”. The use of a continuous silicone band to house the branding is an original, daring and somewhat cheeky approach in a category full of tradition. The disruptive simplicity of the vertical band draws immediate attention to the brand whilst allowing space to celebrate the liquid itself.
The top of the brand features a dual identity of half Scottish thistle, half Australian gum blossom with “Glasgow Inspired: Barossa Realised” to communicate the brand proposition. The wooden stopper was hand carved to allow the band to nestle neatly and securely across the bottle. All of the mandatories were incorporated onto a long thin label on the base of the bottle, thus allowing the beauty of the liquid to shine through. A premium hard case gift box, black with black gloss foiled and embossed branding complements the contemporary nature of the bottle.
