Nicole Oatley Wine

Channeling the power of water.

Denomination created NOW. as a confident, on-premise-led wine brand that reflects both ocean influence and next-generation ownership. Using commissioned water-based artworks, a restrained monochrome palette and minimal typography, the identity delivers elegance with quiet boldness. Designed for extended table-side engagement, the brand signals premium quality, modernity and a deep connection to its Margaret River origin.

Nicole Oatley Wines is a new brand developed for this third-generation wine owner. The wines are sourced from the Margaret River region, with its proximity to the ocean being a defining factor in the quality of the fruit produced in this region. The strategy for this wine was to develop it primarily for on premise with two emerging varietals for the Australian market – Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Priced at an RRP $AUD70 and $AUD130 on premise, the brand needed to exude premiumness. Our client, Nicole, also wanted the branding to feel elegant but bold, modern and sophisticated.

Our creative solution was to commission two different pieces of art that were created using water techniques in order to semiotically tie to the vineyard’s proximity to the ocean. Although each artwork is by a different artist - Alison Rossiter and Nigel Bird; the monochromatic colour palette and water-based techniques ties them both together. Given the focus on on-premise, it was important to provide consumers with a design that could be appreciated during a longer ‘dwell time’ when served at the table.

The monochromatic colour palette is sophisticated, highlighted with a touch of gold for the logo. The removal of any other typography is a bold move, indicating the confidence of the brand and wine quality. The brand was named NOW. (Nicole Oatley Wines) signalling the next generation of ownership to the business.
