Quinta da Pedra Alta Ports
Three granite markers signal a new beginning for an ancient Quinta.
Quinta da Pedra Alta, which is located in Portugal’s Douro Valley, is the only Quinta with three of the original granite markers – called ‘feitoria’ – that were put in place in the 18th century to demarcate the best Port-producing regions in Portugal. As it was determined that the existing identity and packaging design had little standout, uniqueness or story-telling, the redesign had to be revolutionary in nature in order to achieve the client's objectives.
Denomination’s creative solution was to hero the three feitoria as the brand’s marque, appearing as diecut graphic representations in the top right corner of the label. This modern reference to the past is complemented by very contemporary typography of the long brand name, stacked in an angular structure.
An illustration of the vineyard’s topography is screened onto the beautiful Manter Arconvert Saville Row Tweed in Aubergine. This richly coloured paper complements the warmth of the Port colour, and the dyed nature meant there were no white edges visible in the diecut feitorias. The White Port used an innovative foil burn to allow show through of the botanical illustration to the golden liquid inside.
We approached Denomination because the team has a strong track record in taking legacy drinks and making them work in a modern premium context. I love the interpretation of our three feitoria into a distinctive brand icon.”
